What is an empty leg?

For economic reasons Private Jets need to fly 2-3 hours per day to cover the costs of purchase and maintenance.

If a client (“the Charterer”) rents a Private Jet to fly to a destination, but does not wish to return within 2-3 days, then the Jet will often/normally come back empty. Large volumes of Private Jet flights can depart or return to their starting destination empty. This is known as an “Empty Leg”.

Thanks to a brand new system set up by lastminutejet.com, our members will be advised of all the Empty Leg flights with a specially discounted price. This price is generally less than half the normal rate charged.

So what are the advantages and disadvantages of this new concept in Private Jet travel?:

Advantages

  1. Membership to lastminutejet.com entitles you to prices of Empty Legs at cost. You should expect to pay up to half of the normal price.

  2. Check-in time is approximately 20 minutes before departure, even with luggage.

  3. Your luggage goes with you. On average, you will leave the airport, together with your luggage, within 5 minutes of landing.

  4. Approximately 70% of Empty Leg bookings operate successfully.

  5. lastminutejet.com has access to Empty Legs between European cities also. click here >

  6. lastminutejet.com participates in a carbon offset scheme, at no extra cost to yourself, ensuring that your trip is eco-friendly. click here >

  7. lastminutejet.com has agreements with all the major UK Private Jet operators, giving us access to some of the most up-to-date aircraft.

  8. In most cases, Private Jets use private terminals therefore avoiding the crowds.

  9. In many cases, you will be allowed to have a driver (with picture ID) come onto the tarmac right next to where your Jet disembarks, to ensure that passengers and luggage are loaded at the same time.

  10. You have the security of knowing who your fellow passengers are.

  11. lastminutejet.com will send you a daily availability report direct to your designated email address, to inform you of the following day’s Empty Legs to and from the UK.

Disadvantages

  1. lastminutejet.com is dedicated to the selling of discounted Empty Leg flights on Private Jets only. We do not sell full priced private charters.

  2. The Charterer booking a Private Jet is normally financially committed within 24 hours of departure. In some instances, the Charterer may be forced to cancel due to family/business complications. In these circumstances, the Empty Leg will not operate or may be delayed. It is our recommendation that scheduled flights are held as a back-up if your trip is important.

  3. Airline crew can only work a certain number of hours per day. If the airline crew exceeds their work hours due to delays or flight time changes, the Empty Leg can be cancelled or delayed until the next day. It is our recommendation that scheduled flights should be held as a back-up if your trip is important.

  4. lastminutejet.com offers availability 24 hours in advance, as the vast majority of changes/cancellations occur more than one day in advance, i.e. the nearer the departure date, the more accurate the information and the less chance there is of disappointment.

  5. lastminutejet.com will not take enquiries nor give out information on Empty Legs more than 24 hours prior to departure.

  6. There is a maximum of 8 people per subscription.

  7. Light catering will be included in the price of the Empty Leg. Special requests cannot be guaranteed, even at a supplement, though you are welcome to take your own food on board. The on-board crew will safely store all food before take-off and landing.

The number of Private Jets available to charter will be increasing by 50% by mid 2008 and we fully expect the number to double by 2009. We anticipate the availability of Empty Legs to increase accordingly.
